We are a research team inside IBEC’s Image and Robotcs group working on assistive Robotics. Our mainly interests points towards assistive robotics on the every day live. Actually we focus on gesture, action and activity recognition field through images and depth sensors and use the knowledge gathered by our algorithm to feed and organize robots in a simulated house environment. In our facilities we count with a robotized kitchen with two robots, and here we try to archive not only coexistence in the same space but also cooperation between human and robots through action recognition and natural commands like voice or gestures.

In this site you will find more detailed information and latest news about the project. We encourage you to visit Ibec’s website to know more about the work done by our fellow’s at our research group and the whole institute in general. Contact us with suggestions, opinions or feedback about our research in our G+ page or by direct email to ‘inhandsproject[at]gmail.com’.

The above video shows the last stage of our research. Currently we are working on the activity and action recognition in two sides. One to track the user an his whole body actions and actions and another line in the detection and classification of his hand movements in particular. Meanwhile we are migrating our custom robotic kitchen software to a more standardized framework using ROS so we can get a more modular test environment and plug in and out different Robots and feed more easily the programs we develop with all sort of sensors without reinventing the wheel at each change.
